<p>Abstract: <span style="text-align: start; float: none; ">We prove that for  n&gt;2 there exists a quandle of cyclic type of size n</span><br style="text-align: start; " /><span style="text-align: start; float: none; ">if and only if n is a power of a prime number. This establishes a</span><br style="text-align: start; " /><span style="text-align: start; float: none; ">conjecture of S. Kamada, H. Tamaru and K. Wada. As a corollary, every</span><br style="text-align: start; " /><span style="text-align: start; float: none; ">finite quandle of cyclic type is an Alexander quandle. We also prove</span><br style="text-align: start; " /><span style="text-align: start; float: none; ">that finite doubly transitive quandles are of cyclic type. This</span><br style="text-align: start; " /><span style="text-align: start; float: none; ">establishes a conjecture of H. Tamaru.</span></p>]]></content:encoded>

    <content:encoded xmlns:content="http://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/content/"><![CDATA[<p><b>Presentazione:</b> Il  progetto Liceo Matematico è finalizzato all'ampliamento della  formazione culturale degli studenti; si caratterizza per una forte  collaborazione tra scuola e università e coinvolge più di 100 scuole  secondarie sul territorio nazionale. Recentemente è stato costituito un  Gruppo di studio dell'UMI dedicato al progetto "Liceo Matematico". <br />Il  presente seminario inaugura il ciclo di incontri dedicati alla  formazione dei docenti organizzato dal Dipartimento di Matematica e  Informatica dell'Università di Ferrara. <br />Durante l'incontro verranno illustrate e analizzate alcune attività del Liceo Matematico di Torino.  <br /><br /><b>Per iscriversi</b> registrarsi al seguente link:</p>

<p><span style="text-align: justify; ">Non possiamo  più vivere senza l’infrastruttura digitale su cui incontriamo vari tipi  di agenti intelligenti che prendono decisioni sottili e importanti che  ci influenzano direttamente, e quindi dobbiamo imparare a conviverci. Ma  senza una comprensione dei principi alla base di questa tecnologia non è  possibile regolamentarla, o nemmeno prevederne i rischi. Lo spazio tra  la cultura scientifica, quella umanistica e quella tecnica, è il luogo  in cui si sta formando questa nuova comprensione delle macchine  intelligenti.</span></p>

    <content:encoded xmlns:content="http://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/content/"><![CDATA[<p>Title: Wavefronts for degenerate diffusion-convection reaction equations<br /> <br /> Abstract: We deal with wavefront solutions to a scalar parabolic equation in one spatial dimension. <br /> The equation consists of a convective term, a reaction term (typically of monostable type) and <br /> a vanishing diffusivity. Wavefronts are traveling waves whose profile is globally defined, <br /> non-constant and monotone. The main topic of this talk concerns the existence of such solutions, <br /> their regularity and related properties. In particular, about the regularity, it is highlighted the behaviour <br /> where the diffusivity vanishes. <br /> All results are based on joint work with Corli (Ferrara) and Malaguti (Modena and Reggio Emilia).</p>

    <content:encoded xmlns:content="http://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/content/"><![CDATA[<p>Giovedì 13 maggio 2021<br /> Ore 16.00<br /> Elisa Sovrano (EHESS-CAMS-CNRS Paris)<br /> <br /> Title: <br /> The effects of flux-saturated diffusion on indefinite logistic-growth models<br /> <br /> Abstract: <br /> Reaction-diffusion processes can be based on Fick-Fourier's law.  Changing perspective, we deal with a dispersive flux which is a  nonlinear bounded function of the gradient. In a bounded domain with a  regular boundary, we investigate a Dirichlet problem associated with a  quasilinear reaction-diffusion equation where the mean curvature  operator drives the diffusion process. As for the reaction, we consider  the product of a logistic-type nonlinearity and a sign-changing weight  function modeling spatial heterogeneities. For this problem, we present  some recent results concerning the existence and the multiplicity of  positive solutions. Depending on the logistic term's behavior at zero,  we prove three qualitatively different bifurcation diagrams by varying  the diffusivity parameter. We point out a new multiplicity phenomenon  without any similarity with the case of linear-diffusion logistic-growth  models. <br /> This talk is based on joint works with Pierpaolo Omari (University of Trieste).</p>

<div>Descrivere  tutte le scomposizioni in forme di potenze di una forma F e' utile,  interessante, ma difficile!</div>
<div>Le varieta' VSP(F) sono state introdotte  allo scopo, ma sono spesso troppo astratte.</div>
<div>Esistono casi in cui  riusciamo ad essere piu' espliciti, ad esempio se F e' una somma di  forme in variabili disgiunte? La risposta e': spesso si, riusciamo, ma  alrettanto spesso non riusciamo.</div>
<div>Riusciamo comunque a congetturare la  risposta e introduciamo i luoghi di Waring che sono utili a raggiungere  risultati intermedi.</div>

<div>Il corso è organizzato dal nostro Dipartimento,  nell'ambito delle attività formative disciplinari dello IUSS.</div>

We will start discussing about the stability for this celebrated result. The question is: how much a hypersurface is near to be a sphere if its mean curvature is near to be constant in some norm?
Then we will deal with the stability for the symmetry of some related overdetermined boundary value problems.
The talk is based on a joint work with R. Magnanini (Firenze).</pre>]]></content:encoded>

<div>Computer  algebra involves developing algorithms to carry out exact computations  involving algebraic structures. Quandles are algebraic structures that  can benefit from the help of computational tools and attention from the  community, much like groups. This project introduces a modern tool able  to work with quandles: congruences, subuniverses, isomorphisms, and  monomorphisms, among others; built on the solid mathematical foundations  of the most recent developments in Quandle Theory, and Universal  Algebra as well as computational tools that withstood the test of time  such as Magma and Rig and modern ones such as CREAM, it is able to  obtain useful results at a competitive speed. As an example, it will be  shown how to compute and visualise connections among connected quandles.</div>
<div>A new algorithm for computing the congruences of connected quandles, based on the work of dr. Marco Bonatto, will be introduced.</div>
