    <content:encoded xmlns:content="http://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/content/"><![CDATA[<p>Il Teorema di Mordell-Weil rappresenta uno dei passaggi cruciali della <br />Geometria Diofantea, disciplina che ha introdotto l'uso di metodi <br />propri della Geometria allo Studio delle Equazioni Diofantee.</p>
<p>Esso asserisce che, dato un campo di numeri K ed una curva ellittica E/K, <br />il gruppo abeliano E(K) è finitamente generato.</p>
<p>In questo seminario tratteremo la sua forma debole: per ogni m&gt;1, il gruppo abeliano <br />E(K)/mE(K) è finito.</p>
<p>Si potranno così vedere alcune delle definizioni <br />e delle tecniche di base della moderna Teoria dei Numeri, fra cui <br />curve ellittiche e coomologia dei gruppi.</p>]]></content:encoded>

<p class="zfr3Q" id="h.p_UYWA6Oy_UWlj">Si introducono e si studiano funzioni a variazione limitata definite su uno spazio di Hilbert dotato di una misura di probabilità "buona", ovvero che permetta di fare integrazioni per parti lungo direzioni opportune. Particolare attenzione è dedicata alle funzioni caratteristiche di insiemi misurabili, e quindi agli insiemi di perimetro finito. Si stabiliscono proprietà e caratterizzazioni di base, e si danno esempi in alcune situazioni significative.</p>

<p class="zfr3Q" id="h.p_ptVaWxuCPqa1">In 1993 G. Alberti proved a celebrated result, conjectured by L. Ambrosio and E. De Giorgi, concerning a rank-one property for the singular part of the derivative of a vector-valued map with bounded variation. We will discuss a recent elementary proof of this result together with some applications to BV functions in sub-Riemannian Carnot groups. These are joint works with S. Don and A. Massaccesi.</p>

<p class="zfr3Q" id="h.p_9SuyOFB0RTgV">The Gauss-Green formula is of significant relevance in many areas of mathematical analysis and mathematical physics. This motivated several investigations to extend such formulas to more general classes of integration domains and weakly differentiable vector fields. In the Euclidean setting it has been shown by Silhavy (2005) and Chen, Torres and Ziemer (2009) that Gauss-Green formulas hold for sets of finite perimeter and L^{\infty}-divergence measure fields, i. e. essentially bounded vector fields whose distributional divergence is a Radon measure. We extend these results to the context of stratified groups. In particular, we prove the existence of generalized normal traces on the reduced boundary of sets of locally finite h-perimeter without requiring De Giorgi's rectifiability theorem to hold. This is a joint work with V. Magnani.</p>

<p class="zfr3Q" id="h.p_j8IEm5o5SE68">After the work of Ambrosio, Gigli and Savaré, it is well-known that in any CD(K,+\infty) space, i.e. a space with Ricci curvature bounded from below in the sense of Sturm-Lott-Villani, the gradient flow of the Boltzmann entropy and the heat flow coincide. In 2014 Juillet proved that this correspondence holds also in the Heisenberg groups of any dimension, although these groups are not CD(K,+\infty) spaces. It was an open problem to establish the same correspondence in any Carnot group. In this talk, we give a positive answer to this question. This is a joint work with L. Ambrosio.</p>

<p class="zfr3Q" id="h.p_OVthSIMUJeyL">We say that a real valued function f, defined in a metric measure space, is approximable in a Lusin sense by Lipschitz functions if, for every \epsilon&gt;0, there exists a Lipschitz function that coincides with f outside a set of measure less than \epsilon. In Euclidean spaces, more generally in metric measure spaces satisfying the doubling and Poincarè inequality, Sobolev functions fulfill this approximation property in a quantitative form.</p>
<p class="zfr3Q" id="h.p_OWbtKKr2JeyW">In a joint work with L. Ambrosio and D. Trevisan we extend these results to a class of non-doubling metric measure structures. Our strategy relies upon pointwise estimates for heat semigroups and applies to Gaussian and RCD(K,\infty) spaces. As a consequence, we prove a first quantitative stability estimate for regular Lagrangian flows associated to Sobolev vector fields in an infinite dimensional setting.</p>

Gigli in order to give a definition of BV functions on RCD(K,\infty) spaces via suitable vector fields and then establish an extended Gauss-Green formula on a class of "regular" domains, which features the "normal trace" of vector fields with finite divergence measure. Then, we pass to the more classical context of a doubling metric measure space supporting a Poincaré inequality, where we reformulate the theory of "rough traces" of BV functions (after V. Maz'ya)in comparison with the Lebesgue-points characterization, and discuss the conditions under which the respective notions of trace coincide. Based on a joint work with M. Miranda Jr.</p>

More precisely, we look for the best shape and location of the Dirichlet regions which optimize these constants. According to the homogeneity of the problem, different situations occur and several questions remain open.</span></p>]]></content:encoded>

<p><span>It is obvious and well known fact that the geometry and topology </span><span>of finite dimensional Banach spaces changes substantially when we pass to </span><span>the case of infinite dimension. </span><span>This is caused mainly by the fact that bounded and closed subsets of </span><span>infinite dimensional space are, not necessarily compact. Especially all </span><span>balls are not compact. </span><span>In consequence of that, many classical theorems valid in finite </span><span>dimensional spaces fail in this more general setting. Within the category of </span><span>infinite dimensional Banach spaces, there are also differences caused by the </span><span>regularity of geometries induced by the selection of the norm. </span><span>In the talk we present a number examples related to fixed point </span><span>theory and illustrating such situations.</span></p>]]></content:encoded>

We will review some known properties of the quasi-projective variety which parametrizes plane Cremona maps of fixed degree. Then, we will address the question of determining which plane Cremona maps of small degree are limits of maps of higher degree. This talk is mainly based on joint works with Jérémy Blanc and with Cinzia Bisi and Massimiliano Mella.<br /><br />Anne-Sophie Kaloghiros<br />Title: Volume preserving maps of Calabi-Yau pairs with a toric model<br />Abstract: A Calabi-Yau pair (X, D) consists of a normal projective variety X and a reduced integral divisor D with K_X + D = 0. A birational map (X, D_X ) ---&gt; (Y, D_Y) between CY pairs is volume preserving if pullbacks of K_X + D_X and K_Y + D_Y to high enough models coincide.<br />The pair formed by a toric variety and its boundary divisor is an example of CY pair, and mutations of algebraic tori can be extended to volume preserving birational maps of toric pairs. In this talk, I will discuss a conjecture that states that every volume preserving birational map between CY pairs that have a toric model (i.e. that are volume preserving birational to toric pairs) is a chain of mutations. I will give some evidence in support of the conjecture in dimension three.<br /><br />Giovanni Staglianò<br />Title: Kuznetsov's conjecture and rationality of cubic fourfolds<br />Abstract: We recall the main conjectures about the important classical problem (still unsolved) on the rationality of smooth cubic hypersurfaces in a 5-dimensional projective space, cubic fourfolds for short, and we present recent contributions in favor of these conjectures. We will also briefly illustrate similar conjectures and results for Gushel-Mukai fourfolds, that is for smooth quadric hypersurfaces in del Pezzo fivefolds. The talk is based on some joint works with Francesco Russo and the recent collaboration with Michael Hoff.</p>]]></content:encoded>

It turns out that, depending on whether  or not a certain geometric condition related to the curvature is  satisfied, extremizing sequences of nonnegative functions may or may not  have a subsequence which converges to an extremizer. We hope to describe  the method of proof, which is of concentration compactness flavor, in  some detail. <div class="gmail_quote">The numerical solution of complex physical problems requires appropriate  mathematical models and accurate numerical methods. Often the numerical  problem is so large that devising computational reduction techniques,  and developing efficient parallel algorithms by exploiting a dimensional  reduction paradigm, becomes necessary. This presentation will address  some of these issues and a few representative applications such as  geodynamics, sports design and medicine, with a special focus on the  complex interactions governing blood motion and artery wall deformation,  and the interplay between electrical, mechanical and fluid-dynamical  processes occurring in the heart.</div>

<p>Fra le tecniche  della logica computazionale, i linguaggi di programmazione logica  abduttiva e a vincoli forniscono espressività sufficiente per  specificare le proprietà di un'ampia classe di sistemi aperti, mentre le  loro controparti operazionali, grazie alle proprietà di correttezza  rispetto alle rispettive semantiche dichiarative, costituiscono un  appropriato meccanismo di verifica.</p>

    <content:encoded xmlns:content="http://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/content/"><![CDATA[<p>On Tuesday the 12th of January, at 11 am, Aula 2, and on Wednesday the 13th of January, at 4 pm, Aula 2,   Prof. David Stanovský, of the Charles University in Prague, will deliver two talks on the following subject:<br /><br /><b>Title: Selfdistributive quasigroups and quandles</b><br /><br />Abstract: I will survey the theory of self-distributive quasigroups and place them into the modern framework of quandle theory. In the first part, I will review the classical theory of affine representations of medial, trimedial and distributive quasigroups, and show how it is used to obtain various properties of the quasigroups. In the second part, I will focus on quasigroups which are selfdistributive only from one side (also known as latin quandles), presenting two types of representations: an affine representation over a certain class of loops, and a homogeneous representations on cosets of groups. In the end, I can show how quandles are being used in knot theory to produce computable invariants.</p>]]></content:encoded>
